National Guidelines!
"New national guidelines hold hope of improving life for asthma
sufferers",
says Dr. David Núñez, (pictured below)
Dr. Núñez, a state asthma expert who
heads the California Asthma Public Health Initiative, presented the
new guidelines, developed by the National
Institutes of Health's National Asthma Education and Prevention Program.
The Kings County Public Health Department was one of the first entities
of it's kind to adopt the Air Quality Flag in California, "Promoting
and Preventing Respiratory Distress". The flag ceremony followed
a brief description of the air quality index and the corresoponding
colors of the flags on September 6th, 2007. Thanks to all those who
joined us on this historical event. The Hanford Sentinel provided
media coverage:
Ten years ago, the EPA established the
Office of Children's Health Protection to make the health protection
of children a fundamental goal of public health and environmental
protection. Since that time the EPA has celebrated by declaring each
October as Children's Health Month. This year, Monday October 4, 2010 is declared as the official observance of Child Health Day.
